here
the call of the kingfisher
sounds like the creaky breathing
of a rusted swing set
in,
and,
out,
and,
in,
and,
out,
and it thaws from me
a homesickness
for the weightless swells
of tethered flight.
for the ocean
wherein the limbs I grew in dark
first met the light
as a dancer
upon the other side
of mother’s belly
she was the first of my skyfalls
and it was from her
that I learned
how
we must become
rain
again
and
again
and
again.
(and from the heavens sank
a god of bones
when in the midst
of a bowsprit forest
a child of the abyss
had learned to sing
and called it:
parthenogenesis.)
