what if I no longer have it in me
the violence of form?
what if next I sleep
and leave
this unmet romance
unmet?
until all that remains
of its perfect aching
are the lunar tears
of whispered dusks
dissolving slowly
into the dark pink hearts
of almond blossoms
what if I wish
not to inhabit you
dear death
but
merely
meet God
as creatures
of a mutual amnesia?
like a swan
veiled in spindrifts of snow
like the colors
by which light
was briefly plagiarized
by closed eyes
before unblooming
onto the black abyssal sleep.
(if I close my eyes now
I fear
that
I may not find them again
until the shattering of dreams.
there
where the spent light waits
eternities
for you
and me.)
