the shapelessness required to belong (7.)

my roots
              aflush    with sky

              my bones
                                  unwrapped
and from the soil they hold within
                                                          an autumn dawns

                      from
                          my
                            fingers
                                    I let
                                        slip
                                                    a cloud

                        one
                                            in a bouquet of storms

                                                              and it falls
                                                          to the ceiling

                            determined
                                                to shatter.

                this is my body

                        somewhere in its twenties’
                        rehabilitating
                        bedrock
                                                              into rain

                etching into every blunted edge
                        of my plasticized symmetry:

“This is where I could love you next.”

“this is a touch I could fall into.”

“This is what becoming looks like,
when we start to love outside the lines.”

                    “This is me,
                                        finally
                                                  choosing life.”

(and thus the birds do drift
                like poppy seeds
                across the great white acres.

                  as the gales of change
                  are singing
come and meet me in the dark.)
