what a cup of apple tea now sings to me at midnight

from steam

           unfold

                           onto this
         rain soaked             void

                   elegies of spring

    of blossom
    the dusk infused shrapnel
                         perfuming the dew
                            and every permission of skin

of your favorite mile
               to the sea
               where the mayflies now waltz
                                    over roiling leagues
                            of nettle and jewelweed

                of the forests
                at last
                shedding amber
at the final toll of a snowdrop
                         where winds give chase
                                         to themselves
                     and the spent light
          recounts to you its origins
          in constellations of anemones

and for a moment
             we were driftwood
             linnen wrapped
                                     and        heaving

                          a wilderness
                          making a last stand
                          against its corporeal frame

                          against
                          returning to the dream.

                         (and there I went
                          down the rivers
                                       of time
                          cut across the palms
                          of the hands
                          of the children
                          of Man

                          home

                          to an ocean of touch.)
