Starling,

Had I known that my love for you
would one day leave the world
wreathed in blood of cloud?

that every stap away from you
would further strip the daylight of its blue
and tear more of the wallpaper
that was your life
from my skies
revealing all was cold and gray

and that my heart
would be returned to me
as but a stone bearing your name?

perhaps
they would proclaim
me to be a fool
if they hear me say
that without doubt
I would suffer through this grief
however cruel
so willingly
a thousand times again

but here I pray
to be that fool
knowing that it means
I’ll have be the one
to live through losing you
surrendering all that ever could be true
or gold
or good
or green

rest well now
my love
and know
that no army of happy men
will ever drag you from my dreams.
